When you move long distance to a different state it is not like you movelocal in the same state or city. items get loaded on to the truck. There are some moving companies that
will provide you with an estimate by weight and will also need a list, but will

will get an estimate for 300 cubic feet and will be charged for the estimate
$3.00 per cubic feet your estimate will be $900.00, if you will have more
items left behind, for example, maybe half of the items that you had from
the estimate that is 150 cubic feet, they will charge you $5.00 per cubic feet
that is the lowest price per cubic feet, it will cost you $750.00, which is even
more than a half from the estimate, almost double and it is not even the
highest price.
Another way companies make money is for example, if you do not have
any more items added onto the original list that you have provided them
with, they will try to charge you more with their packing and material charges
to get the estimate higher. They will tell you that packing and materials are
not included. However, when they come to pack and move you in the same
day, they will use as many boxes and packing supplies as they can to have
more stuff and to get the estimate higher to make more money from you.
If you tell them not to pack anything, they will make you sign a waiver saying
that if something should happen to your items, they will not be responsible.
In the end you will feel trapped because you will know you are being ripped
off and being forced to do something that you do not want to do. They will
charge you from $25.00 to $40.00 a box. So, please be careful because there
are many bad companies out there.
Some companies will provide you a very low estimate to get your business.
They will come to your place, let you sign on an empty contract, and will load
everything into their truck. Before they leave, they will give you the total of
what the move will cost and will double the estimate. By law, you cannot do
anything because you signed a contract and you will need to pay whatever
the company says, or else you will not get your belongings until you pay
every penny. If you try to sue them, it will cost you even more than the move.
So please, be careful.
